John Pocock and Company has a long and rich history in Bulawayo, deeply intertwined in the growth and development of our wonderful city.
Founded in 1955, the company has served large numbers of clients for seven decades, with expertise, honesty, and a genuine concern for clients as entrenched core values.
In 2020, the company moved premises from the city to Suburbs. The new location provides all customers with safe parking and easy access. And so "Pocock for Property" continues to serve Bulawayo with the same enthusiasm, honesty, efficiency, and professionalism. The core values established by its founder in 1955.
How We Started
The company was started by a remarkable individual, John Pocock.
He was a bomber pilot with the RAF in the Second World War, who served with great distinction and incredible bravery.
After the war he was stationed with the RAF in Bulawayo. He fell in love with the place, and after drafting out of the RAF, decided to make it his home. Needing to find a future, he decided to open an Estate Agency.
In those days, there were no formalities regarding how business was done, so he rented an office, and began to walk the town, knocking on doors as a means of advertising his new venture. This was the start, and the business began to grow.
John Pocock And Our Legacy
His son, Guy Pocock joined some years later, and together they created an iconic Bulawayo Agency.
Both were substantially involved in the development of the Estate Agents Council, and the Real Estate Institute.
The legislation drafted was to be a real safeguard to persons dealing in property, particularly in the sales of residential properties, and both John and Guy were to be commended for their extremely valuable contributions to this exercise.
Craig Friend joined the company in 1995, and eventually took over the management of the company after John Pocock retired, and Guy emigrated to Canada. He was joined by his son Darryl in 2012 and together they have continued to grow the John Pocock brand.
